This practice helps prepare you for the 20-minute Yoga workout in this series. For anyone working with an injury (and most are!), the slow pace and the detailed instruction help you work safely within the limits of your own body. Stretch your body and feel centered with a focus on breathing and gentle poses. The following poses are great for opening up the chest, shoulders, and surrounding areas, such as the neck. In these classes, we also stress the use of props, learning how the use of blocks and straps can deepen our practice. It is very common for people to hold tension and tightness in the shoulders due to poor posture and prolonged sitting. Each pose will be heavily instructed and questions are encouraged. In a beginner class, expect a lot of instruction centered around alignment. We believe people benefit by starting here (even with just a class or two) before graduating to a Slow Flow class and then ultimately to a Flow class. This is where you begin your yoga journey.
